Love Notch collects as little as it can operate on: the notes that pass through its relay, kept briefly so a Mac can collect them; an email address if you give us one; and anonymous traffic figures on the marketing pages. There is no account, no advertising profile, and nothing sold or shared with anybody.
Written in plain language so it can be read rather than agreed to unread. It describes how Love Notch actually works today — but it is a starting point, not legal advice. Have a lawyer review it before you take live payments.
What we store
- Notes and replies, briefly. A note typed on a phone goes through a relay on this site so the Mac it is addressed to can collect it. For each pairing code the relay holds a hash of the Mac’s secret (never the secret itself), the text of each note and each reply, the display name the sender typed, and the time each one arrived. Notes and replies are kept for 30 days from the last one, or until a hundred newer ones have replaced them, and are then deleted. Nothing is read by a person, and nothing is kept once the Mac has gone quiet for long enough.
- Email addresses. If you ask to be told when something ships, or you buy, we hold the address and the date. Nothing else about you is attached to it.
- Payment records. Creem holds these, not us. We can see that an order exists, what it was for and what it cost; we cannot see a card number, and neither can anyone else outside your bank and the processor.
- Traffic figures. Page views, referrer, rough country, browser, on the marketing pages only. Anonymous and aggregate — they answer “did anyone read the pricing page”, not “who read it”. The send page, where your partner writes, loads no analytics at all: the only thing it talks to is the relay.
What we do not store
- No card details of any kind. Payment information goes straight to Creem and never reaches our servers.
- No accounts and no passwords. There is nothing here to log into; a pairing code is the only address a note has.
- No advertising pixels, no data brokers, no third-party embeds, and nothing sold or rented to anyone under any circumstances.
Cookies
One, and only when analytics are switched on: a visitor identifier the analytics script sets so that a person browsing three pages is counted once rather than three times. It carries no name, no email and no profile, and it is the only reason a purchase can be traced back to the page that led to it. Blocking it costs you nothing on this site.
What the app sends
- Notes and replies, through the relay on this site. The Mac asks for new notes addressed to its code a few times a minute, carrying the code and the secret it made when it paired, and sends its one-click replies the same way. The secret proves it is the Mac that paired; the sender never has it.
- A license check, about once a week: your license key, an identifier for this activation, and your Mac’s name as shown in System Settings, so you can tell your activations apart. It goes to this site, which passes it to Creem and keeps none of it.
- An update check: a request for the list of releases, carrying the app’s version and nothing about you.
Nothing else. Love Notch never uploads your files, their names, or anything about what you do with it beyond the notes you choose to send.
Who else sees any of this
The processor that takes the payment, the analytics provider that counts the visits, the mail provider that delivers a receipt, and the hosted database that holds notes for the relay until a Mac collects them — each seeing only the part they need to do that job. No one else, and no one at all for advertising purposes.
Having it removed
Write to hello-lovenotch@buildmac.app and say so. An email address is deleted on request, without being asked why. Notes delete themselves on the schedule above; to end a pairing sooner, regenerate the code from the app’s Settings, and the old one stops accepting notes at once. Records of a completed purchase are kept for as long as tax law requires them to be — that part is not ours to waive — and are held by the processor in any case.
Links away from here
Some links leave this site with an attribution parameter attached, so the other end can see the traffic in their own analytics. Once you have left, that site’s privacy policy applies and this one does not.
Who you are dealing with
Love Notch is operated by Dmytro Virych, based in Kyiv, Ukraine. Payments are taken by Creem, acting as merchant of record — they charge the card, handle sales tax and VAT where it applies, and are the name that appears on your statement. These terms are governed by the law of Ukraine.
